Floor polishing can add so much to the interior design of a floor plan that even if your floor condition is in good shape, you should still consider floor polishing it to get a shiny new look that will significantly improve the appearances of the flooring.

So, What is Floor Polishing and How is Floor Polishing Done? Which Floors can Be Polished?

Floor polishing is a process in which the top layer of the floor is grinded by small diamonds which gives the existing floor a shiny new layer. In many cases, restoring the floor with a polishing machine can provide excellent results that can change the appearance of the flooring. Sometimes there are hard stains that have penetrated through a layer or a coat of earth that can not be removed by cleaning machines only.

Floor Grinding

In these cases, the only way to remove the hard stains is by grinding the top layer of the floor and remove it.  The grinding process will leave a smooth, shiny surface. Floor Grinding is a job for professionals only and is not recommended for someone who is not knowledgeable, or hasn’t had experience in the field. Why professionals? Because each type of floor or surface requires a different level of grinding and different form of floor polishing. An unskilled person can destroy the surface and cause greater damages. In most cases polishing a floor is done with the use of specialized machines called “grinders” that have diamond plates on the base of the tool that is used for the grinding process. Diamond graphite is known to be a very powerful mineral that can sharpen and cut even the most difficult of surfaces.

The process of grinding the floor is usually composed of several stages of grinding. The first step in most cases is to clean the floor later you must fill the spaces between the tiles and wait for it to completely dry. After the floor is clean and dry (a process that can take a few hours to a day), the finishing work is done with the grinding machine. Stages of grinding depend on the type of floor and the customer’s requirement of completion, There are different diamond plates with different sizes and types of diamond that will be used depending on the desired finish.  The operation is performed symmetrically and asymmetrically across the surface in small sections. Different levels of grinding will provide different levels of shine, the process will repeat itself until the desired shine has been achieved. This is where grinding turns into polishing.

After polishing is finished, it is required to apply a sealer or another protective layer that preserves the shine and keeps the lifespan of the flooring. Although many people think it is only possible to polish marble flooring or natural stone flooring, this is not true at all. Surprisingly many different types of floors can be polished and deliver excellent results. Whether you have concrete flooring, marble flooring, or even old terracotta tiles, it can be polished. Polish flooring will give the floor a new shiny, sophisticated look.
